Just a short note to say I finished your book on Friday. A great read – a very special way to treat yourself and your partner . It gave me much more detail on what you have emphasised at our sessions. Some things made a lot more sense and it gave me an overall picture of what your ideas (is philosophy the right word?) are all about. I wish I could have read it at the start back last year.

My girlfriend read it at the same time as me and she was impressed as well.

Chapter 11 of Think and Grow Rich

 

So what was Napoleon Hill talking about in chapter 11?

Napoleon Hill undertook the task of studying the most successful men in his time over a period of 25 years before writing ‘Think and Grow Rich’. He made these statements in his book, in chapter 11, Sex Transmutation.

“1. The men of greatest achievement are men with highly developed sex natures; men who have learned the art of sex transmutation.
2. The men who have accumulated great fortunes and achieved outstanding recognition in literature, art, industry, architecture, and the professions, were motivated by the influence of a woman.

His statement points out that it is not just having a high sex drive, but knowing how to use it. Sexual desire is the most motivating emotion to man. We think we are rational beings but emotion is stronger than rational thinking. How do you persuade someone? Through emotion, by targeting someone’s heart. By knowing what ‘pulls their strings”. Emotions stimulate powerful chemicals in our body. Biology is pretty hard to override. Chemicals can be mind controlling whether they are natural or synthetic.

Our sexual hormones and chemicals can be as powerful as heroine and morphine. Modern scientists have compared the brain tomography of an orgasm to shooting up heroine. We have seen the affects that drugs and heroine have on our youth and society, so that comparison is a startling discovery that our own bodies can produce natural chemicals and powerful and controlling as an illicit illegal street drug responsible for ruining lives and increasing crime rates.

So the bottom line is, if we don’t control our sexual hormones, then our hormones will control us. So how do we control and override nature? Napoleons book focuses on self development and the power of the mind. The key is learning to control our mind which will enable us to gain more control over our emotions and biology.

Napoleon, being a man, and because of the social structure back in 1937 when he published Think and Grow Rich, focuses on men and successful men. I am a woman so I will cover sexual transmutation for both sexes. For the moment though, let’s continue analysing what Napoleon Hill discovered about the male sex drive. His second point listed, mentions the influence of a woman.

2. The men who have accumulated great fortunes and achieved outstanding recognition in literature, art, industry, architecture, and the professions, were motivated by the influence of a woman.

Is this the origin of the saying, “behind every great man is a great woman”? A woman provides love, support, inspiration, and a sexual outlet, a hormonal balancer, an emotional balancer. Add a woman into the equation and less time and energy is wasted seeking sexual gratification but there still must be more to the equation. Many unsuccessful men have female partners.

Marriages today do not have a great success rate. There must be more to it than having a great relationship. What affect does a female have on the male biology and hormonal system? If a man is able to ‘dissipate his energy’ more regularly because he is in a relationship, then you would think that he would have less drive to focus into being successful.

The research from which these astounding discoveries were made, went back through the pages of biography and history for more than two thousand years. Wherever there was evidence available in connection with the lives of men and women of great achievement, it indicated most convincingly that they possessed highly developed sex natures.”

“No man can avail himself of the forces of his creative imagination, while dissipating them. Man is the only creature on earth which violates Nature's purpose in this connection. Every other animal responds to the call of sex only in "season." Man's inclination is to declare "open season."… The lives of many reflect a continued dissipation of energies, which could have been more profitably turned into better channels. Their finer and more powerful emotions are sown wildly to the four winds.”
